Summer sport has kicked off for another season and we are excited and proud to have 40 clubs on board this summer, across eight different summer sports codes.  It is great to see these clubs and codes support the Go the H20 Player of the Day initiative for another year, taking action on this important kaupapa.

Everyone wants to ensure our children lead happy, healthy and active lives.  The Go the H20 movement aims to make water the drink of choice and by encouraging sports clubs to promote water-only sidelines. It reinforces the message that water is the only drink our kids need before, during and after playing sport.  Water-only sidelines also help to create a ‘bring your own bottle’ culture.

As part of the Go the H20 movement, our Player of the Day initiative rewards children with a free pool pass instead of the traditional fast food voucher.  Over 20,000 free pool passes are awarded to juniors annually, providing a fun reward for children which encourages the whole family to get active together.

This season we are delighted to welcome Mitre10 MEGA Upper Hutt and Petone as an official sponsor of the Player of the Day initiative across the Hutt Valley.  Mitre10 MEGA Upper Hutt and Petone are locally owned and operated and like to lend a helping hand where they can.

Cliff Lockyer, CEO says “We are proud to contribute to helping grassroots sport to grow, while encouraging healthy choices. We are pleased to see the change we can achieve together”.

We’re delighted to have Mitre10 MEGA Upper Hutt and Petone on board recognising our children’s sporting achievements across the Hutt Valley.

We recently launched our first edition of the Go the H20 Player of the Day e-news.  This is a way for us to keep in touch with our clubs and codes throughout the season and support and encourage water-only and junk-free sidelines.

Imagine if our sidelines were all water-only and fast food sponsorship had no place in sport.
